Finale

I just watched the last episode of the series, and I just have to say "No!" and "Why?!" I guess maybe I should start at the beginning.

Battlestar Galatica is sort of known for having explosive season finales, and so I was really looking forward to seeing what they'd do with the series finale. They did not disappoint. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and in the couple of hours I watched the finale, I rushed through a variety of emotions. I was shocked. I was happy. I was sad. I laughed. I cried.

I don't think I've genuinely cared for a group of characters as much as I care for Athena, Boomer, Starbuck, Adama, Roslin, & Co. in my life. These characters felt real, and when they started dying, I felt like I was losing friends. I found myself wanting everything to be all right. I wanted Roslin's cancer to be suddenly cured. (Hey, more shocking things have happened in the series.) I wanted Boomer to be forgiven and taken back into the fleet. I wanted Starbuck to be human again and live a long life. Unfortunately, and fortunately, I guess, Battlestar Galactica isn't a show about sunshine and rainbows.

Roslin's and Starbuck's ends had to have been the most emotional parts of the episode for me. Their ends made me appreciate the characters more, especially Starbuck, as I already really liked Roslin before. I felt sad that the two of them would never be able to enjoy the Earth they both sacrificed so much to find. And I felt bad for Apollo and Adama, who for whatever reason, were left alone without even each other after their other halves had passed.

The happiest part of the finale for me was not-surprisingly, Athena, Helo, and Hera's last scene. I love the fact that after having been through so much emotional and physical stress, they finally were able to live as a family together forever in peace. I hate that Athena was the one to kill Boomer, but after all that Boomer had put Athena through, there would never be any forgiveness, and it was a logical choice Athena made. The only sad thing is that Athena essentially took over Boomer's life. Being the one who killed Boomer, it became a lot more true.

Battlestar Galactica is hands down the best TV show I have ever watched. No show has ever grabbed me in at the beginning and kept me into it all the way through. I'm sad that there is no more story for these characters, but I will definitely rewatch the show again and again.

And hey, at least we're not done seeing the Eights. The Plan is coming out soon, and I can't wait.
